I am not going to lie to you and say this will “transform” your home. It is a piece of furniture. It holds things. But if you are tired of tripping over shoes in the hall or you have got a pile of mail on the kitchen table that’s reaching the ceiling, a Small Sideboard is a sensible shout. It is compact. It fits in those awkward gaps under the stairs or in a tight dining room.

Look, if you want something that looks brand new forever, go buy something plastic or metal. This is oak. It has got grain. It has got knots. It might even have a slight bit of a rough edge where the tree decided to grow a certain way. That is the point. I see people buying a white gloss sideboard and then complaining three months later when it is covered in fingerprints and scratches. A light oak sideboard hides a lot of sins. My kids have bashed ours for years and it still looks like a proper bit of kit.

How heavy is a mini sideboard? It is heavier than you think. Since it is solid wood, you are looking at 20kg to 40kg depending on the size. Do not expect to move it around easily once you have filled it with your bits and bobs.

Does it need a lot of looking after? Not really. Give it a wipe with a damp cloth if you spill something. Every six months, rub a bit of wax or Oak Sideboard Care oil into it. It takes ten minutes. Don’t overthink it.

Can I put a heavy TV on it? If it is one of our Oak Sideboards, yes. It won’t bow or sag like the cheap stuff. Just make sure the legs of the TV actually fit on the top surface.

Will the colour change over time? Yes. Wood is a natural product. If you put it in direct sunlight by a window, it will mellow and change shade over the years. That is what real furniture does.

Does it come assembled? Most of them do. I hate flatpack as much as you do. We build them properly in the workshop so you don’t have to spend your Saturday swearing at an Allen key.
