I have spent more years than I care to admit in the workshop at Oak Castle Furniture and I can tell you right now that wood is a living thing. It breathes. It has knots and grain patterns that do not always do what you want them to. If you are looking for clinical, plastic perfection, you are in the wrong place. Common questions people ask me in the shop

Why is it so heavy? Because it is solid wood. We don’t use the hollow stuff. If you want something you can carry under one arm, buy plastic. This is built to stay put and hold weight.

Will the colour change over time? Yes. Oak mellows. It gets a bit deeper and richer as it ages and sees the sun. That is not a flaw, it is what real wood does.

Do I need to assemble it? Most of our oak stuff comes as it should—built. I don’t expect you to spend your Saturday afternoon fighting with an Allen key and a confusing diagram.

Can I put a heavy lamp or a TV on it? Yes. That is the point of it. It won’t bow in the middle like the cheap stuff you find elsewhere.

Is it okay for a damp hallway? Wood doesn’t like extreme damp or being right next to a radiator. It’s a natural material. Treat it with a bit of respect and it’ll be fine.
