Keeping it real with the white high gloss sideboard

I’ve spent the better part of twenty years in a workshop covered in dust and wood glue. Most days I’m shifting Solid Oak units that weigh a ton and require a proper bit of muscle to move. Then someone comes in asking for a high gloss sideboard because they saw one in a glossy magazine and thought it looked posh. Fine. If that is the look you are after, I am not here to argue with your taste, but you should know what you are getting into before you part with your cash.

This high gloss sideboard is about as modern as it gets. It is white. Very white. If you want something that blends into a rustic cottage, keep walking. This is for those clinical, sharp-edged living rooms where everything has a place. It reflects light like a mirror, which helps if your room is a bit of a dark hole, but it also reflects every single fingerprint. If you have kids or a dog that likes to nudge furniture with a wet nose, you will be cleaning this thing every hour. I am just being honest. It is not like a light oak sideboard where the grain hides a bit of dust.

People ask me if it is durable. It is sturdy enough for your bits and bobs, certainly. We build these things to last, not like those flat-pack nightmares you find at the big blue-and-yellow warehouse. But the finish is the thing. You scratch this, and you’ll see it. It is not like a Small Oak Sideboards unit where a bit of wax and a rub-down fixes a scuff. You have to treat it with a bit of respect.

Look, Oak Castle Furniture stands by the build quality of everything we put out. This White Sideboard is a statement. It is for people who want that minimalist, high-end look and do not mind keeping a cloth handy. It is not for everyone. But if it is for you, it is a proper solid bit of kit that will stay together long after the cheap stuff has fallen apart.

“I was worried it would feel a bit flimsy, but it is surprisingly heavy and solid. The gloss finish is very bright. Just keep the kids away from it with their jammy fingers and you’ll be fine.”

Common Questions

How do I get rid of fingerprints on the gloss? Don’t use anything abrasive. A soft microfiber cloth and a tiny bit of water or a specialized glass cleaner is all you need. If you scrub it with a rough sponge, you’ll regret it.

Is it actually heavy? Yes. It is not made of cardboard. It has a proper weight to it, so make sure you know where you want it before the delivery drivers leave.

Does it come in other colours? Usually, these modern Sideboards come in white or black. If you want grey, you might be better off looking at a Grey Sideboard in a painted wood finish instead.

Will the white turn yellow over time? Not if you keep it out of direct, harsh sunlight for 10 hours a day. Modern lacquers are pretty good at holding their colour, but like anything, UV will have a go at it eventually.

Can I put a heavy TV on top? It’s tested for weight, but if you have a massive screen, you might be better off with a dedicated TV Unit that is built specifically for that purpose.
