Description
Solid Oak Small Bookcase: Honest Wood for Real Homes
Let’s get one thing straight. This is a low oak bookcase. It is small, it is heavy, and it does not pretend to be anything other than a sturdy block of wood to hold your stuff.
If you are looking for a flawless, sterile piece of plastic, go elsewhere. This wood has grain, knots, and colour shifts.
That is the point.
We use solid oak for the frame to make sure it does not wobble when you load it up. The panels use real oak veneer because solid wood panels warp when you turn your central heating on.
It will scratch if you drag keys across it. That is what wood does. You can wax it or just leave it to show some character.
Get your tape measure out before you buy. It is 90cm wide and 90cm high. It is not going to fit in a gap that is 89cm.
We ship it fully assembled. No flat-pack nonsense. No missing dowels.
It is heavy. Do not try to carry it up three flights of stairs on your own unless you fancy a trip to the osteopath.
If you want to look at other sizes, check out our range of bookcases at the Oak Castle Bookcases Category.
“Arrived fully assembled and weighs a ton. Solid build, takes the weight of my heavy hardbacks without bending. It has some natural knots in the wood which I prefer over flat-pack veneer stuff.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clean the wood?
Just wipe it down with a dry, lint-free cloth. If you spill tea or water, wipe it up straight away before it marks the wood.
How often should I wax or oil it?
Give it a light coat of clear wax every six months. This keeps the wood hydrated and stops it from drying out in heated rooms.
When will my delivery arrive?
Standard delivery takes up to five business days. We will send you tracking details so you can see when it is close.
Can I place hot mugs directly on the shelves?
Do not do that. Heat will leave white rings on the finish, so use a coaster.
Do I need to attach this to the wall?
We recommend it if you have young children who like to climb. It is heavy, and you do not want it tipping over.
Will this low oak bookcase fit in a narrow hallway?
It is 30cm deep, which is quite slim, but you should still measure your walking path to make sure you do not bump your shins.
Is a pre-assembled bookcase sturdier than flat-pack?
Yes, because it is built in a proper workshop with joinery, not held together by cheap metal cam locks and plastic pegs.
Why does the wood grain look different from the picture?
Because it is real wood. Every tree grows differently, so you will see unique knots and colour variations on your specific piece.
Can the shelves hold heavy encyclopaedias without bowing?
The shelves are solid and supported by thick timber, so they will hold heavy books without bending like cheap board does.
How do I match this oak with lighter or darker woods in my room?
Do not worry about matching everything perfectly. Mixed wood tones look more natural and lived-in than a matching showroom set.
How can I use a low bookcase to make a small room look larger?
Keeping the height low leaves more open wall space above, which lets more light bounce around the room.
How do I fix a scratch on the surface?
Rub a bit of matching wax polish into the scratch with a soft cloth. It will blend right back into the natural grain.
