Some people call it rustic. I just think it is practical. This isn’t the flimsy flat-pack stuff you find in big-box stores that wobbles the moment you put a lamp on it. It is Mexican Pine or similar solid timber, so it is proper heavy. You will probably need two of you to move a Sideboard into place. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about your back. It is a bit of a faff to move, but that is the price you pay for something that doesn’t feel like cardboard.

The wax finish gives it a nice glow, but it isn’t a suit of armour. It will scratch if you are careless. If you do get a mark, you can usually sort it out with a bit of wax and a cloth. How do I clean waxed furniture? Don’t go dousing it in supermarket spray cleaners. They’ll just ruin the finish. Use a dry, lint-free cloth for the dust. Every six months or so, give it a fresh coat of wax to keep the wood from drying out.

Is it actually solid wood? Yes. It’s solid pine. No bits of compressed sawdust or paper here. That’s why it weighs a ton.

What happens if I scratch it? You can usually buff it out. That’s the beauty of a wax finish. Unlike lacquer, you can actually repair it yourself without needing a professional restorer.

Will the colour change? Pine mellows. It gets a bit darker and deeper over the years. If you want something that stays exactly the same colour forever, you’re looking at the wrong material.

Does it come in pieces? Most of our pine range comes fully assembled. I hate flat-pack as much as you do. Just make sure you’ve measured your doorways before the delivery driver turns up.
