Real Solid Oak TV Stands for 55-Inch Televisions: What to Expect

Most modern TV stands are made of compressed paper and glue. They look alright in photos, but they bend under a heavy screen.

A 55-inch television is not light. If you put it on a cheap unit, it will wobble every time the dog runs past or the kids get rowdy. We build our cabinets from thick, solid oak because we do not like doing things twice.

It is heavy.

You will need two people to carry this into your house. If you have thin plasterboard walls or tight corners, check your measurements before you buy. Do not assume it will fit just because you have a blank wall.

A normal 55-inch screen is roughly 123 centimetres wide. If the legs of your television are right at the edge of the frame, you need a stand that gives you several centimetres of breathing room on either side. Anything less looks cramped and risks getting knocked.

We use proper dovetail joints in the drawers. There are no thin, sagging shelves here, and the back panels are solid wood, not flimsy cardboard.

If you are tight on space, a corner layout might work better. You can check our Living Room Corner TV Units to see if they fit your room layout, or look at our Living Room Coffee Tables if you want matching timber.

“This thing is a beast. It took two of us to carry it in, but it does not move an inch. The drawers fit all the kids’ controllers and the TV actually fits without hanging over.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean and maintain my oak TV stand?
Dust it with a dry microfibre cloth. Once a year, rub in some clear beeswax to stop the wood from drying out.

How long will it take to get my furniture?
Standard delivery takes up to 5 business days. You will get a tracking number to see where the driver is.

What should I avoid putting on the wood?
Keep wet glasses, hot mugs, and nail polish remover off it. Use a coaster or you will end up with permanent ring marks.

How do I protect the wood from sunlight and heat?
Do not put it right next to a radiator or in a spot with blistering, direct sunlight. The heat will dry the timber out and cause cracks.

Do I need to assemble the unit myself?
No. We build it in our workshop and send it out whole. You just have to unpack it.

How wide should a TV stand be for a 55-inch television?
Look for something at least 130cm to 140cm wide. This keeps the screen stable and stops the edges from hanging over.

Will the wood grain look exactly like the pictures?
No. Every tree grows differently, so your unit will have its own unique knots and grain patterns.

Can this stand handle heavy older audio gear or soundbars?
Yes. It is solid timber, so it will not sag under heavy soundbars, amplifiers, or consoles.

How can I blend a new oak TV stand with darker furniture?
Do not worry about matching everything perfectly. Use a rug or some simple decor to break up the different wood tones.

How do I make a small room feel larger with a TV unit?
Pick a unit with raised legs so you can see the floor underneath. It makes the room look less crowded.

How do I fix minor scratches or scuffs on the finish?
Rub a bit of clear furniture oil or a matching wax polish into the scratch. Always rub in the direction of the natural grain.
