Description
The Bedroom and why I bother stocking it
I have spent the better part of twenty years in workshops, and if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is furniture that feels like it might blow away if you sneeze too hard. This Barcelona stuff is different. It is heavy. It is solid. It is the sort of thing you buy once because you are tired of replacing wobbly bits and bobs every two years.
If you are looking for something that stays looking brand new forever, go buy a plastic chair. This is Solid Oak and painted real wood panels. It has grain. It has character. It might even get a scratch if your kids decide to use it as a ramp for their toy cars. That is just what happens with real timber. I have seen this Barcelona Oak range take a fair bit of stick and still look decent.
The tops have a warm stain on them that actually looks like wood, not some printed sticker. The frames are painted in white or grey. It is simple. No fancy carvings that catch the dust. Just straight lines. I reckon it is Oak Living Room Furniture that actually does what it says on the tin.
We have got the whole lot in the range. There are Sideboards for hiding the mess, Coffee Tables that can actually hold a stack of books, and a TV Unit that won’t sag under the weight of a decent telly.
Now, about this stool. It is a handy bit of kit. I have had customers use it as a bedroom stool for when they are putting their socks on, or just as an extra perch in the lounge when the house is full. It comes pre-assembled. I hate flat-pack. I do not have the patience for tiny hex keys and confusing diagrams, and I assume you do not either.
Oak Castle Furniture handles the boring bits like the guarantee. I just care that it is built right. It is sturdy enough for a busy house. Just mind your toes when you are moving it.
Comparing the Barcelona to the usual rubbish
| Feature | Barcelona Solid Oak | Cheap Flat-pack | Cheap Plastic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durability | Will outlast your kids | Lasts until you move house | Brittle and snaps |
| Maintenance | Odd bit of wax or polish | Screws need tightening weekly | Wipe and pray |
| Cost | Fair for what it is | Cheap for a reason | Waste of money |
| Feel | Proper solid | Wobbly | Lightweight |
Common questions I get asked
Does it come in pieces? No. Most of it is pre-assembled. I do not like spending my Saturday afternoon looking for a missing screw, and I do not expect you to either. The stool is ready to go.
Is the paint going to peel off? It is a proper finish. It is not going to flake away like cheap emulsion. But look, if you bash it with a vacuum cleaner every morning, you might get a chip. It is a house, not a museum.
How do I clean it? A damp cloth. Do not go drenching it in water or using those nasty chemical sprays. A bit of common sense goes a long way with wood.
Is it actually heavy? Yes. It is solid timber and thick panels. If you have got a bad back, get the premium delivery. Let the younger lads carry it up the stairs for you.
Will the colour match my other bits? The oak tops are a natural, warm tone. The white and grey are fairly neutral. It usually fits in fine, unless your house is decorated like a spaceship.
“I was sick of buying furniture that felt like cardboard. This Barcelona set is proper solid. It survived my two toddlers and a dog without a wobble. Definitely worth the extra couple of quid for something that actually lasts.”
