55 Inch TV Stands

I have seen plenty of people come into the showroom after their cheap flatpack unit has started to sag in the middle under the weight of a modern soundbar and a heavy screen. That is why we do things differently at Oak Castle Furniture. We build things to stay built. If you want something that stays looking new forever, go buy a piece of plastic. This is Solid Oak. It is heavy. It has got character. It might even get a little scratch if you are careless with the HDMI cables, but you can sand that out. You cannot sand out a hole in a piece of paper-thin veneer.

Choosing a TV Unit isn’t just about the looks, though I know that is what usually starts the conversation. It is about whether it can actually hold 35kg without complaining. Most of our stuff comes pre-assembled because I do not think anyone should spend their Saturday afternoon arguing over an Allen key and a confusing instruction manual. You want to get the telly on, hide the bits and bobs in the cupboards, and get the kettle on.

If you are tight on space, you might be looking at Extra Tall TV Cabinets to keep the screen out of reach of sticky fingers. But for most, a standard 55 inch tv stand does the job. It puts the screen at eye level so you are not straining your neck like you are sitting in the front row of the cinema.

And another thing. Don’t worry about the delivery. I know what a faff it is trying to squeeze a Solid Wood TV Unit into the back of a hatchback. It is not worth the stress or the dented boot. We have got lads who do this every day. They will bring it in, put it where you want it, and even take the cardboard away so you don’t have to spend your Sunday at the tip.

Comparing your options

Common questions I get asked

How wide does the unit really need to be? For a 55-inch screen, you want 120cm minimum. Any smaller and the screen overhangs the legs of the furniture. It looks top-heavy and looks a bit silly, to be honest.

Is it going to be a nightmare to move? Yes. It is solid wood. It is not a feather. If you are planning on moving house every six months, maybe look elsewhere. If you are staying put, this is what you want.

Where do all the messy cables go? We cut proper holes in the back panels. I hate seeing a nest of black wires behind a nice piece of furniture as much as you do.

Does it come in a box with a thousand screws? No. Most of our oak range arrives at your door as a finished piece of furniture. You might have to pop a shelf in or screw on a handle, but that is about it.

Will the colour change over time? It is a natural product. If you stick it in direct sunlight under a south-facing window, it will mellow a bit. That is just what wood does. It is part of the charm.
