Will my remote still work if the soundbar is on a shelf?
As long as the front of the shelf is open and the soundbar isn’t tucked too far back, you’ll be fine. If you’ve got glass doors, they need to be IR-friendly, but I usually recommend just keeping the audio shelf open for the best sound anyway.
Is solid oak too heavy for upstairs rooms?
It’s heavy, aye, but any standard British floorboard can handle it. The main thing is making sure you’ve got someone to help you move it, or better yet, get the delivery team to do the heavy lifting.
Can I put a soundbar on top of a TV unit if the TV is also on its stand?
You can, but check the height. If the soundbar is tall, it might block the bottom of your screen or the “eye” for the remote. That’s why I prefer the wide-shelf units.

How do I hide the cables if the back of the unit is visible?
If the back of the unit is on show (like in the middle of a room), use some Velcro cable ties to bundle the wires together and run them down one of the legs. It keeps things tidy and stops the cat from chewing on them.
