Choose an oak bedroom set by deciding which pieces you need, checking what the purchase actually includes and measuring the room before choosing a finish. A coordinated bedroom can be built from separately listed furniture; the word “set” does not guarantee that a bed, mattress, wardrobe and pair of bedside tables are sold together.

Start with our bedroom furniture range to compare individual pieces. If you are looking at a bundle, check its itemised contents and quantities before treating the displayed price as the cost of the whole room.

Make a list of pieces, not just a matching look

  • Bed frame and mattress: check whether either is included, the exact mattress size the frame accepts and the frame’s outside dimensions.
  • Bedside tables: decide whether you need one or two, and confirm the quantity supplied in each listing.
  • Wardrobe: prioritise usable hanging space if you have longer clothing; ask for internal rail and shelf measurements.
  • Chest of drawers: compare usable drawer dimensions with the folded items you need to store.
  • Optional extras: only add a dressing table, stool or mirror if you have space and the required dimensions have been checked.

A compact room may work better with fewer useful pieces than a large matching collection. If you already have a bed you like, concentrate your budget on the storage you are missing rather than replacing everything for the sake of a set.

Measure the whole bedroom layout

Sketch the bed, windows, radiators, sockets and door swings. Mark the full outside footprint of each shortlisted piece on the floor, including any space needed behind it for skirting boards or plugs. Then open nearby doors and check the routes you normally use.

A wardrobe needs room for its doors and for you to stand in front of it. A chest needs drawer-opening space as well as its closed footprint. Test both before buying; a unit that fits against the wall can still be awkward to use beside the bed.

For two bedside tables, add their widths to the outside width of the bed frame—not the mattress width—and allow any gaps your layout needs. For example, two 38cm-wide bedside tables take 76cm before adding the bed frame and clearance. That calculation is a starting point, not a guarantee that the layout will work.

Use exact UK mattress and bed-frame measurements

Common UK mattress sizes include double at 135 × 190cm, king at 150 × 200cm and super king at 180 × 200cm. These are mattress dimensions, not the outside dimensions of a bed frame. Confirm both with the manufacturer before ordering, especially when reusing an existing mattress.

Avoid choosing from names such as “queen” or “full” alone, since they are not reliable substitutes for an exact UK mattress specification. A headboard, footboard or wider side rail may make a frame take more space than the mattress-size label suggests.

For bedside height, measure to the top of your mattress including any topper. A tabletop around that level is a useful starting point for easy reach, but test your own setup. The finished bed height depends on the frame or base and mattress together; it cannot be established from mattress width alone.

Two separately listed pieces to compare

Both examples below are listed in the Imperial Oak Collection. They are separate furniture listings, not a verified bedroom bundle. Dimensions are width × depth × height.

The listings describe a light oak finish, but that does not establish that every component is solid oak or that colours will be identical across production batches. Confirm the range, component materials, finish and quantities. Do not assume a bedside unit is supplied as a pair or that either example matches the height of your bed.

Choose construction and finish on the evidence

Solid oak is timber; oak veneer is a real oak surface over another material. A piece may combine both, while painted ranges can use different materials in different components. Check what the listing says about tops, frames, panels and drawers rather than judging quality from “oak colour” alone.

Check the protective finish too. Lacquered, oiled, waxed and painted surfaces can need different care. Follow the exact item’s instructions rather than applying a universal polishing or re-oiling schedule. Materials and construction details are more useful than a promise that every oak piece will last for a fixed number of years.

Budget for the whole purchase and delivery

Add up each item and its quantity, including a second bedside table if needed, a mattress if it is not included, delivery charges and any assembly service you choose. A coordinated range is not automatically a discounted package or a single delivery.

  • Check packaged dimensions against doorways, stairs and tight turns along the delivery route.
  • Confirm how each piece arrives and whether assembly needs extra floor space or ceiling clearance. Ask if different sections of a listing disagree.
  • Confirm the actual delivery service, lead time and any postcode restrictions for each item.
  • Read the guarantee and returns terms, including exclusions and any collection charges; a guarantee does not automatically cover accidental damage.
  • Follow the supplied assembly and wall-fixing instructions for wardrobes and chests.

Keep the finish coordinated, not the room overcrowded

Compare wood tone, handles and proportions across the pieces you want. Exact matching is optional: related finishes can work together if their scale and purpose suit the room. Keep bedding and accessories simple at first so you can see whether the furniture works before adding more.

Browse pieces to build your bedroom

The products below are individual furniture listings. Check each item’s current price, availability, quantity and specifications rather than treating the display as one complete bedroom package.

Once your list and measurements are clear, browse the bedroom furniture collection and compare the individual specifications. Choose the pieces your room needs, confirm what is included and ask about any missing measurement before you order.
